Daniel Lee Darden was born June 11, 1946 in Sampson County to the late John and Rodie Stevens Darden. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 with his family at his side.
Dan (as affectionately known) attended Sampson County Schools, including Wesley P.W. Moore High School. He was employed at Kemp Manufacturing for 14 years. He was also employed at Cherry Hospital for 13 years and retired due to declining health.
Dan was a devoted husband and father. He loved his family and gospel singing and was a faithful member of The Silver Bells of Mount Olive, North Carolina.
Deacon Darden was a charter member of The House of Prayer of Dudley, North Carolina. He served faithfully as a deacon and as the president of the Senior Choir. He was willing to do whatever was necessary to promote the good of the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Rodie Darden, Dannette Darden (daughter) , Donald Battle (son); eight brothers T.I., Willie, Leroy, Joe, Lewis and Linwood Darden, Milton and William McCoy; two sisters Beatrice Teachey and Norvella Johnson.
Deacon Darden leaves to cherish his devoted wife Sadie Darden; two daughters Diane (Gary) Green and Laure (Roy) Gleason of Dudley, North Carolina; four sisters Betty (Joe) Lanier of Grantham, North Carolina, Bernice (Clarence) Barkdale of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Ethel McCoy of Faison, North Carolina and Betty Mae Godman of Mt. Olive, North Carolina; six grandchildren including one precious granddaughter “Jessica whom he kept by his side” always; four great grandchildren’ two special nieces Peggy Ward and Laura Jean Walker; a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
