Mrs. Evonne Sauls Yelverton was born August 13,1935 in Wilson County, North Carolina to the late Leander Taylor and Ethel Sauls. She was raised by the late Lenzie Hamm and Hettie Bell Williams Hamm of Greene County, NC. 


She attended Wilson County public schools. She was employed for more than 30 years at Bruce Foods Corporations. After her retirement she became a foster grandparent for the Wages Headstart program in Goldsboro. 


Evonne was an active member of St James Church of Christ Disciples of Christ in Fremont, NC until her failing health made it impossible for her to attend. 


Mrs. Yelverton is preceded by her husband L.H. Yelverton with whom she had four children, Sheila Yelverton Ford of Groton, CT; L.H. Yelverton Jr. of Wayne County; Dennis Yelverton of Wayne County; and Tyrone Yelverton of Wayne County; six grandchildren, Quishauna (Chris) Yelverton of Groton, CT; Dana Ford of Groton, CT; Dennis Ford Jr. of Groton, CT;        Javonte Taylor of Wayne County; Taydem Mares of Clayton, NC; and Yasmine Yelverton of Kenly, NC; two great grandchildren Neria Yelverton and Noah Yelverton-Encarnacion both of Groton, CT.                                                                                                               

She is also preceded in death by her brother Issac (Tick) Taylor of Maryland. 


She also leaves behind one sister Miriam Taylor Mason and her husband Jesse Mason of Virginia Beach, VA. Two special nieces Ethel Yelverton and her husband Russell of Wayne County, NC; Brenda Lewis and her husband Jimmy of Wayne County, NC; two special lifelong friends Mrs.Della Spruill of Pikeville, NC and Mrs. Winnie Williams of Goldsboro and a host of other relatives and friends all of whom she loved dearly. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of those who loved and cared for Mrs. Yelverton including the staff at Willow Creek Nursing Home and relatives Edna Artis and Eunice Smith, friends Della Spruill and Clinton Banks for keeping Evonne's spirits up while she was in the nursing home.
