Deacon Glenn Vincent Riggs transitioned from labor to reward September 17, 2017. He was born January 2, 1939 to the late Ernestine Thompson. Glenn graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C. in 1956 and completed two years of college while in the military. He  entered the military at the age of 17 years old, in the Army Airborne Infantry. He completed two combat tours in Vietnam. His other duty assignments included Senior Drill Sergeant, Airborne Training Instructor, Platoon Sergeant Infantry, and Military Police Supervisor and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major as a Military Policeman where he served for twenty four years and nine months, and as an Infantryman for nine years and eleven months.

He retired with an Honorable Discharge on September 30, 1983. A few of his various decorations and badges include the Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Master Parachute Badge and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.

Deacon Riggs was a faithful member at Parkers Chapel Church where he performed his duties as an active member Deacon. He worked diligently wherever he was needed.

Glenn was preceded in death by his brother Linwood Thompson.

Deacon Riggs leaves to cherish his precious memories his son Laland Riggs (Waralene); two sisters  Sybil Barnes and Jessine Thompson; nephews Donald Barnes and Michael Barnes; a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews, godchildren Joshua Daniels and Tyce Kornegay, and the very special Pitt’s family; other relatives and friends.
