James Edward Best

"His lord said unto him, well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."

            James Edward Best, son of the late Golden and Hilda Best, was born March 27, 1950 in Goldsboro, North Carolina.  He departed this life on Sunday, August 26 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

            At an early age, he became a devoted member of Greater Guiding Star United Holy Church under the leadership of Rev. J. D. Brown, he remained faithful under the leadership of the eminent Pastor, Elder Joseph M. Williams, Sr. until death.  He was a member of the GGSI Male Chorus and Voices of Praise. He attended Sunday School, Bible Study and Worship Service faithfully.

            James graduated from Dillard High School in 1969.  Upon graduating, he was employed at Kemp Furniture Company until its doors were closed.  Soon after the closing of Kemp Furniture Company, he was employed at Case Farm until his retirement in 2011.  James was a hard working and faithful employee.

            James was humble and full of compassion; his greatest enjoyment was attending church, singing, playing his guitar and consuming good food.

            He is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Best Benjamin; three brothers, Mack Arthur Best, Johnny Matthew Best and Rev. Nathaniel Best.  He leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Minister Jessie Best of the home; one niece, Shegita Best; two nephews, Mack Bizzell and Maurice Wilder all of Goldsboro, NC. A host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
