Lillie Bishop Obituary

As the first born, Lillie Bell Bishop's sunrise was August 21, 1925 to the late Deacon Arthur and Deaconess Queen Esther Brewton in Jackson County, Florida where she joined Little Zion Baptist Church at an early age. She peacefully exchanged her earthly home for her heavenly home on July 5, 2019. She was preceded in death by Edmond House, Robert House, Robert House, Vanessa  Darlene Bishop, Hazel Thomas, Rodney Demerritte (son-in-law), Bessie Brewton, Robert Brewton, Dolphus Brewton, Issac Brewton and Roosevelt Brewton.

She also received her education in the Jackson County School System.

In 1958, she moved to Miami, Florida where she met Council Allen Bishop and from this union was eight children.

While living in Miami she became a member of the St. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church of Perrine, Florida, where she served as an active member of the choir and a soloist.

In 2005, she relocated to Goldsboro, NC to reside with her daughters. While in Goldsboro, she became a member of Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she remained until her death.

Her favorite things were cooking, baking homemade cakes, wearing her fancy hats and enjoying her fish and grits. Her favorite scripture which gave her great peace was John 3:16 (For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whatsoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life).

Those left to cherish her fond memories and continue her legacy are daughters Irelia House-Coley (Andrew), Esther Rowena House, and Euretha Demerritte; sons Edgar House, Jr., Nathaniel House, and Allen Bernard Bishop; sisters Maggie Porcher (Anthony), Lutissue Pyles; brothers Cornelius Brewton, James Brewton (Barbara), George Brewton (Doris); sisters-in-law Beamon Brewton, Joyce Brewton; twenty two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
