Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.
Proverbs 31:10
Mother Annie Mae Braswell-Cox was born in Wayne County on February 2,1924 to the late Otis and
Isabella Benton-Braswell. She was united in marriage to the late Robert Lee Cox, Sr. From this union
they had thirteen children. She departed this life in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 6, 2024
at her residence surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
A lifelong learner, Mrs. Annie Mae Braswell-Cox was a proud graduate of the Pikeville Training School.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Known for her strong
work ethic, she worked as a beautician, seamstress, and baker. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening,
shopping and interior design. Annie Mae also enjoyed traveling especially with her family. The highlight
of each year was the forty plus year trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for fishing, fellowship and
food with many members of her family and friends from across the country.
In 1943 when Robert Lee and she were married, they established their home in the Rosewood
Community of Wayne County. To Mother Cox her family was her greatest achievement. She enjoyed
cooking and having family gatherings at her home. Her home was always in order and open to family
and friends who sought her company, wise counsel and prayers. A well-respected member of her
community, she was part of the Rosewood Awareness Community Club and the Rosewood Advisory
School Board. However, the most important part of her life was her relationship with her Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph FWB Church and instrumental in all areas of
the church life and growth. She was part of the Women Home Mission Program, was a member of the
Senior Choir, and served in numerous other capacities. Most noted ably and humbly, Mother Cox was
Church Mother for fifty-eight years and President of the Mother Board.
Annie Mae was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Cox, Sr. and four of their sons, Robert Lee
Jr., Lawrence Ray Sr., Donald Cox (Pauline), Linwood Cox, eight brothers, and two sisters.
Annie Mae leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Annie L. Dawson of Goldsboro, NC, and Apostle
Lonice C. Holland (Edwin) of Goldsboro, NC. Along with seven sons, Ronald Cox (Linda Faye) of
Knightdale, NC, Kenneth Cox (Willie Mae) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, James Randy Cox, Sr. (the late Mary
Lee), of Goldsboro, NC, John W. Cox (Lisa), of Goldsboro, NC, Eddie Cox (Karen) of Goldsboro NC, Teddie

survived by twenty-eight grandchildren and grandmother to five generations. Mrs. Cox also has one
surviving brother, Herbert Hoover Braswell of Goldsboro, NC, along with a sister-in-law, Viola Braswell of
Philadelphia, PA, and a host of nieces and nephews.
