Bessie Mae Langston Ethridge, daughter of the late Vander Langston and Hattie Yelverton Langston Harper was born on February 28, 1933 in Wayne County. She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Wayne UNC Health Care.
Bessie received her education with Wayne County Public Schools. She later moved to Arlington, Virginia where she lived and worked for more than 15 years. She left to go to New York City for 20 years. She worked at the Salem Hospital in Arlington, Virginia. She also worked at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. She returned back to Wayne County in 1989 and worked as a Senior Compassion for foster grandparents and she retired after many years. She enjoyed reading, arts & crafts, and also enjoyed working on her flowers and plants. Bessie was a Eastern Star Member in Alex, Virginia, Chapter 23 and in Goldsboro, North Carolina #137.
Bessie was united in holy matrimony to the late James Webb Ethridge, who was preceded in death of her 2 sons Thaddeus Ethridge Langston and Warren James Ethridge; sister Maybell Langston, Cora Lee Cox; brother Willie Langston and Albert Langston.
She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter Brenda Ethridge; grandsons and granddaughter Sakima Ethridge, Robert Coates and Allena Coley all of Goldsboro, North Carolina; one sister Polly Langston Williams of Goldsboro, North Carolina; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
