Deequetta Q. Kates was born January 9, 1963 to John Whitley and Mary Ann Whitfield. She transitioned from labor to reward on December 31, 2019. Deequetta attended Wayne County Public Schools and graduated with Goldsboro High School Class of 1981. After graduation she worked as a homemaker and also was a long standing member of The Word Warehouse.
Her precious memories remain with her husband Anthony Kates; father John Whitley, Sr. of Brooklyn, NY; two sisters Johnice Whitely of Raleigh, NC and Dokeania Whitley of Knightdale, NC; two brothers Antonio (Roxane) Whitley, Sr. of Columbus GA and John Whitley, Jr. of CA; two nieces Tanisha Lofton and Asheyla Ellegor; five nephews William (Chalina) Lofton, Johnathon Lofton, Rammando Malone, Antonio Whitley, Jr., and Isaiah Whitley; three great nieces Asia, Sharelle and Amaree; two great nephews Jaxson and Bennie; two sisters-in-law Earline Kates and Felecia Kates; two brothers-in-law Jerry Kates and Jerry Kates; special friends Linda Topper and Sigman L. Farmer Jr.
