Derrick Antonio “Tony” Maye, age 39, was born on November 8, 1985, and passed away on July 13, 2025. Affectionately known as “Tony Macaroni “. He was the cherished son of Tear Maye (Lane) Truzys, and was lovingly supported by his godparents, Dianne Bryant and Tony (Joyce) Smith.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, William “June” Dancy and his biological father Terry Hackshaw, his brother, William “Von” Maye; and his beloved grandparents, Nellie and Lawrence Brown.
A proud native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Tony attended Wayne County Public Schools with Goldsboro High School’s Class of 2003. He was raised and a member of St. Luke Disciples of Christ Church.
Tony was known for his larger-than-life personality, magnetic energy, and boundless love for those around him. He had a special bond with his grandmother that helped shape his values and left a lasting impression on his heart. Tony's zest for life was evident in everything he did—from his love of motorcycles and fitness to his passion for speaking Spanish and his joy in meaningful conversations. His presence was unforgettable, marked by an infectious laugh, warm smile, and a genuine ability to connect with others.
He is survived by his loving children, Caleb Maye and Journee Garner; his devoted mother, Tear Maye Truzys; and his siblings, Nikia “Kiki” Maye, Shanell Maye, Di’Isha Jackson, Gamara “Pooh” Loftin and Tarrius Artis. Among his deepest connections was the unbreakable bond he shared with his nephew and brother in spirit, Jai’Kelvin Maye. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, several aunts and uncles—including his special uncle, Mac, whose presence and support meant the world to him—along with extended family members and lifelong friends who were like family.
Tony will be especially remembered by his childhood friends Kelvon Artis and Brian Williams; his goddaughter, Ikirah Moore; his godbrother, Jamal Brodie; and the North End Crew.
Tony’s vibrant spirit, fierce loyalty, and heartfelt presence touched everyone he encountered. His memory will continue to shine through the lives of those who knew and loved him.
