EJ Blackman Obituary

Minister EJ Blackman was born June 29, 1952 in Clinton, North Carolina to the late William and Lois (Raynor) Blackman.  He answered yes to the call of Heaven and transcended in the presence of the almighty God March 8, 2018 at his home around 5:30 AM.

He received his education in the public schools of Sampson County, North Carolina and served in the US Army for 4 years. He continued his education by attending Sampson Technical Community College and Wayne Community College, where he achieved numerous certificates.  He was employed at AP Parts for 17 or more years and later was employed by Jackson and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning for 20 years.

EJ and Dorothy and were introduced to one another October 3, 1988 and were married November 28, 1988; it was a 2 month romance. EJ, Dorothy, Dexter, and Brandon became one family. Ross Elizabeth was born on August 9, 1991 and this completed his family.

EJ was a devoted and enthusiastic Christian, who found joy serving in various church ministries, including the Prison Ministry, the Angel Tree Program, and the Heart and Soul Ministry for the homeless for over 30 years. In his lifetime, he strived to give his all to God and humanity. He was always praying for you and with you and always had an encouraging word that told you “everything is going to be alright!” EJ was blessed with the gift of conversation and the ministry of helps. There were very few things that EJ did not know about or could not do himself.  If you had an issue, he could help you fix it or find an answer. We knew by the love EJ shared he was a true disciple of Christ, ministering and leading many to Christ.

As a youth, he attended Brown’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Clinton, NC and                   Cedar Point Disciples of Christ Church of Newton Grove, NC. He joined First Assembly of God in Goldsboro, NC in 1987, where he served in various capacities, including on an outreach ministry team that witnessed annually in the streets of New Orleans, LA during Mardi Gras. In 1996, he became a devoted member of Victory Faith Center.

He was preceded in death by a brother William H. “Romeo” Blackman, a sister Bernadine Troublefield, and a son Brandon Hamilton.

His family will remember EJ as a devoted husband and son, a compassionate brother, and a loyal father. He is survived by his “darling” wife Dorothy W. Blackman, his son Dexter L. Blackman of Nottingham, MD and his daughter Ross Elizabeth Blackman of the home, his brother Eugene Blackman (Normandy) of Silver Springs MD, his sisters Clementine Troublefield (Herman) of Faison, NC, Lonie Oliver (Jesse) of Clinton, NC, Linda Nobles of Mount Olive, NC, and a host of very special uncles, aunts, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
