Ethel Belle Herring was born on December 6, 1934 in Clayton, North Carolina (Johnston County) to the late Robert Herring and Martha Herring departed this life on June 14, 2016 at Riverside Community Hospital in Newport News, Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, two brothers and two sisters,  Jasper E. Herring, Ray A. Herring, and Phyllis D. King; Joseph Ardell Herring, William Herring; Smithy L. Alsop, Carniece DeVaughn.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Sandra L. Harper of Denver, CO and Rhonda I. Dent (Timothy) of Stafford, VA ; grandchildren Brondon Harper, Patina Herring, Kimmerli Herring-Isler, Kehinde Harper, Jeromey Herring, Shannon (Erica) Isler, Auntrell Barnes, DeMario Isler, Ashley Harper, and Aunia King; great grandchildren,  Hannah Hartzell, Sierra Harper, Isaiah Harper, DeVaughn Brooks, Chayoni Isler, Alexis Mason, Iyanna Ford-Barnes, Shayla Isler, Arionna Isler, McKenna King, Sean Best Jr,  Malachi Isler, and Aubrielle Isler; and one great great grandson Wyatt Hartzell; one sister and one brother, Martha A. Herring and Robert H. Herring; beloved nieces and nephews;  and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Ethel graduated from High School and went on to complete Certified Nurse’s Assistant program. She retired from Cherry Hospital and after retiring she worked as a Home Care Provider.

Ethel was an active member of Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, fishing, writing, reading, and spending time with her family.
