Evalina Henry (also known as “Tootie”) was born on October 7, 1955 in Goldsboro, North Carolina to Mildred Turnage Henry and the late Harry Bizzell.
Evalina was a 1973 graduate of Goldsboro High School. After high school, Evalina worked for over 10 years at Americal until she decided to pursue her love of culinary arts. She went back to school and graduated from Lenoir Community with a degree in Culinary Arts. After her graduation, she became the head chef at the Goldsboro Country Club where she worked until she retired in 2015.
Tootie loved her family, her church, cooking and traveling.
She was always at family gatherings cooking, laughing, talking and loving everyone. She served faithfully as a member of Christ Memorial under the late Apostle Donnie McIntyre and Pastor Diane McIntyre. At Christ Memorial, she was a member of the choir, the praise team and the Kitchen Committee. Whenever she got the chance, she was always willing to travel – whether by ship, air or car – she was ready.
She was preceded in death by three sisters Pearline Coley, Annie Hall and Harriet Bizzell Meek.
Evalina is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Tomesha Henry Kornegay and husband Allen Kornegay of Goldsboro, NC; her mother Mildred Turnage Henry of Goldsboro, NC; her sisters Cassie Pearsall (Ray) of Goldsboro, NC; Ira (Winkie) Fussell of Goldsboro, NC; Brenda Daniels (Nathan) of Goldsboro, NC; Ruth Bizzell Dillard (Jesse) of Tallahassee, FL; Mildred Royal of Goldsboro, NC; Denise Bizzell Allen of Tallahassee, FL; her brothers Windley Henry (Brenda) of Raleigh, NC; George Henry (Ella) of Clayton NC; Tom Henry (Lisa) of Goldsboro, NC; James Henry (Julianna) of Clayton, NC; aunts Lula Turnage of Kinston, NC; Anges Spinner of Kinston, NC; uncles Ben Turnage (Nancy) of Kinston, NC; George Turnage of Washington, DC; James Turnage of Kinston, NC; step-mother Etta Bea Bizzell of Tallahassee, FL; two very loving friends, Pastor Diane McIntrye and Ann Newsome. She will also be missed by her many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, classmates and friends.
