December 13, 1941 ~ February 24, 2016 (age 74) 74 Years OldBobbie Jean Bennett, daughter of the late Robert Henry Bennett and Lillie Bennett Greenfield, was born December 13, 1941 in Mount Olive, North Carolina.
She graduated from Carver High School in 1960 and later attended Business College in Baltimore, Maryland. Bobbie was a very giving and loving person. She would often refer to herself as one who loves to give hugs. Not only was she a “big sister” to her siblings and “a mother hen” to her nieces and nephews, but to all who came to know and love her. She will be remembered by many for forthrightness and her ability to do her assigned tasks with excellence.
Bobbie was a very industrious person. In 1970 after working several years in New York City; she returned home and obtained a position as manager in a Family Dollar store. She was later employed as a Customer Representative for the Carolina Power and Light Company. After her retirement from there she then obtained a position as an Instructional Assistant with the Wayne County Public School System from which she was also blessed to retire.
Bobbie also served her community in various capacities. She worked diligently as the Treasurer of the Carver High School Alumni and Friends Association. As a Meals on Wheels volunteer, she brought comfort and joy to many senior citizens. Later on she became a member of the Community Heights Crime Watch Association and worked as much as her health would allow.
Most important to Bobbie, was her love for Christ and His Church. She became a member of Northeast Chapel OFWB Church at an early age. As a youth she worked faithfully in whatever area she was asked to serve. After returning home from the North, she resumed her duties as a faithful member of the church. She served for many years on the Usher Board as a member and as its president. She was called into the ministry during the 1980’s and took her vocation very seriously.
She was preceded in death by one brother Henry Vann.
She leaves to cherish and celebrate her memories: two sisters, Betty Bennett and Bebra Bennett Robinson of Mount Olive; two brothers, Earthel (Irene) Bennett of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Lonnie Bennett of Bear, Delaware; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and a goddaughter and godson.
