Fannie Mae Sauls Williams returned to her heavenly home on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 4.20PM at Harmony Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingston, NC.
Fannie Mae (affectionately known as MuDear or Mother Dear) was born February 19, 1926 to the late Eddie Sauls Sr. and Alice Jones Sauls. She was educated in the Wayne County school system. She married the love of her life, the late Chester Williams on July 9, 1946. They were married 24 years before his death in 1969. Through their marriage, they bore and raised 5 daughters with love and discipline.
Fannie Mae began working at Cherry Hospital in early 1944. She worked in many areas at Cherry Hospital and loved her patients and was a very smart worker. She received recognition for her outstanding work performance and dedication to her patients in the form of promotions and awards. She earned promotions from Health Care Technician I to Healthcare Technician II and RN assistant. She was ward supervisor and also building supervisor as needed. She took many training courses through her employment at Cherry Hospital including nursing arts and psych therapy. She was especially proud of the 97 she made on the state pharmacology exam.
Mrs. Williams retired in 1982 after 37 years of loyal and dedicated service to the state of North Carolina. She joined the State Employees Retiree Club immediately after and was organized and remained an active member since then.
Fannie Mae became a member of Mt Zion Ministries where she later served as a Mother of The Mother Board, kitchen committee, senior choir, missionary work and a member of the birthday club.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester C Williams; her father, Eddie Sauls Sr,; her mother, Alice Sauls; and her 10 siblings. She is also preceded in death by her four daughters, Luberta W. Wade (2004), Gertrude W. Graham (2010), Peggy W. Sherard (2011), and Rosa W. Carlisle (2015); one grandson Antwan Williams (age 16, 2007).
Fannie Mae leaves a legacy of love and is survived by one daughter Mevlalene W Greenfield, one brother, Eddie Sauls Jr. (Shirley), one sister ,Ossie Sauls Sloan, all of Goldsboro, NC; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
