Hortense G. Smith

Hortense G Smith born September 19, 1929, to Sarah Burnell Gerald.  She departed this life on June 3, 2022, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

She was educated in the Goldsboro, NC school system.

Hortense enjoyed sewing, getting dressed up, going out to eat, and having conversations with those she was fond of.  She was known for her many fancy hats that always made her stand out from the crowd.

She was adored by all and became a mother figure to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Smith; her mother Burnell Richardson; her sons Emmanuel and Samuel Gerald; and her brother Bobby Richardson.

She is survived by her granddaughter Valencia Hall (Rodney); grandsons Reginald Sasser (Tonia), Geno Carmichael; granddaughter Takia Bennett (Camron); step-daughter Rose Cauthen; great-grandchildren Brandon Stroder, Keith Downing and Courtney Bullock; great great-granddaughter Taylor Stroder; goddaughters Kecia Maynard (Arturo), Constance Duncan and Sadie Watson; godson Pastor Gary Agee Sr.; Special Companion Raymond Horne; Special friend Betty Wells; niece Anita Richardson; nephews Bobby Richardson, Howard Joyner and Quintin Richardson; and a host of cousins, family & friends.
