John Earl Boone Sr. transitioned to his heavenly home on December 27, 2016 at 12:03 pm.

John Earl affectionately known as (SONNY BOY) was born on  February 12, 1936 to the late  Phillip and Elton Boone who were sharecroppers, working the fields in Garysburg, North Carolina.

John was the youngest of 9 children.  At an early age he worked as a sharecropper until the age of 17.  John ventured out from North Carolina to New York following his older siblings and found work at Sontag and Sons; where he learned his trade as a glazier which became his passion.

While John was exploring his options in New York he met and married the love of his life  Dorothy Lee Farmer. During the month of June 1958, John Earl and Dorothy Lee wed in holy matrimony. Through their marriage they bore and raised 3 sons; John Jr;  Gregory (Michael ) and Leonard with love and discipline. John adored his family and was a dedicated husband and father.

After several years of working at Sontag, John decided to change his work location and spent over 30 years working as a Glazier for The New York Housing Authority. Throughout his career he became The Lead Foreman until he retired. John was exceptional at his work and was   loyal and dedicated to the NYC Housing Authority. He received recognition for his outstanding work performance

John enjoyed driving to North Carolina to visit family at least twice a year. He especially liked to dine where barbeque was served. John was always in contact with his schoolmate Robert. He often visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Mary Grantham whom were very dear to him. John and Robert were best friends since schooldays.

John and Dorothy were members of The Macedonia Baptist Church in New York and were regular in attendance until they relocated to East Stroudsburg, PA. in which they still visited.

During his spare time he enjoyed hobbies such as carpentry, glazing (glass work), art and tinkering around with his automobile.  John liked to help his neighbors with mowing their lawn, plowing snow and checking their mail while they were on vacation. He was named the Mayor of his neighborhood because he was a friendly social bug and knew everyone.  He was recognized as an active member of the Mason Organization and enjoyed spending time with The Lodge.

John would often share his carpentry work with family members and if they needed repairs or something created he would oblige.

John’s favorite foods were coffee, chocolate cake, ribs, chopped BBQ,  turnip greens and pan fried cornbread.

John Earl Boone was preceded in death by his father Phillip Boone; mother Elton Boone; and his eight siblings.

John Earl leaves a legacy of love and is survived by three sons John Earl Boone Jr.  of North Carolina, Gregory Michael Boone of North Carolina  and Leonard  Boone of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren Yahnell Yahn, Rick Carter, Michael Boone, Victoria Boone Murdock, Schavonne Fuller, Michonda Plaza, Michael Plaza, Christina Boone and Leonard Boone Jr.; nine great grandchildren Samora Allison Murdock, Sarai Janelle Murdock, Rick Carter III, Gabriel Yahn, Malik Yahn,  Alexandria Jackson, Gabriel Jackson, Aimair Thomas, and Carter Plaza; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
