Joyce Oaten-Smith

On Sunday, August 29, 2021, angels escorted our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and cousin to take her place in Heaven. Joyce Smith of Portsmouth, VA, daughter of the late Inez Moses Oaten Malone and the late Robert Oaten was born November 12, 1947.

Joyce graduated from Dillard High School in 1966. After graduating she married the love of her life Andrew Smith. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jerry and David Oaten and daughter in law Gretchen Smith.

She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories, husband of 56 years Andrew C. Smith; a dedicated and faithful daughter Antionette Smith of the home; a loyal son Fernando Smith; two grandchildren Fernando Smith III and Ashaunti Smith all of Portsmouth, VA; two brothers Douglas (Cheryl) Oaten and Robert Oaten of Dudley, NC; two aunts Elmer Jean Taylor of Snellville, GA and Edna McFarland of Goldsboro, NC; one uncle Walter Howard Jones of Dudley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a very special friend Sarah Kaye Watson of Florida.
