Laura Flowers Obituary

Laura Lucille Artis Flowers was born on May 8, 1931, in Wayne Co. to the late Priscilla and J.B. Artis. She attended Dillard School and later married the late James Faulk. She was the proud mother to five children.

She was an advocate dresser and was very particular of her fashion. Her Sunday afternoons were dedicated to mission, which also included visiting family and friends. Her favorite eating spots were Morrisons Kitchen or McCall’s.

In her leisure time she enjoyed watching her spiritual and western shows while enjoying a bowl of ice cream. She was known for her chicken pastry and baking. She also had a phenomenal love for gardening and beautiful flowers.

Sister Laura was a faithful member of Greater Guiding Star, where she served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board until her health declined. She was known for her pristine white uniforms. She loved supporting her church and her Pastor the late Joseph M. Williams Sr.

She was one of the founding supporters of the North and South Fellowship where she was affectionately called “Mother”, participating in the annual Rainbow Tea Fundraisers for her services and supported the local community events. She was a proud foster grandparent and a distinguished role model to all young ladies.

After the death of James Faulk, she married the late Donnell “Butch” Flowers.

She was preceded in death by her son Thaddeus Faulk, two sisters, Rosa Lee Jones, Sarah Taylor. Four brothers, J.B. Artis Jr., Nathan Artis, Robert Lee Artis, and Richard Earl Ham. Five grandchildren, Thaddeus Jr, Ashley, and Telicia.

Sister Laura leaves to cherish her memories children, Robert Faulk (Marie) of Georgia, Shirley Faulk-Holloway of (Goldsboro), Sandra Faulk-Williams (Jimmy) of Pikeville, Wilma Glover(Tyrone) of Maryland, sisters, Georgia Mae Hamm of Goldsboro, and Doris Thompson of Fayetteville. In addition, sixteen grandchildren, thirty seven great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
