Mae Yelverton Obituary

Mae Gladys Yelverton was born on April 7, 1943 to the union of Barney Johnson, Sr. and Elizabeth Battle Johnson in Wayne County, North Carolina.

The beautiful spirit of Ms. Gladys left this earthly realm on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Wayne Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Raymond Yelverton, her son, Jimmy Johnson and siblings: Archie, Larena, Darlene, Leamon, Clifton, Connie and Barney Jr. Her kind sweet nature and loving laughter will always be remembered by all who crossed her path.

She was a faithful mother who loved her children. Her caregiving expanded through three generations. She made sacrifices to ensure they were taken care of throughout their childhood and beyond. She had a very gentle spirit and made sure you felt her hospitality and love. She loved the Lord and encouraged others to trust in Him for strength and wisdom. While serving as a homemaker, Ms. Gladys was known for her delicious cooking! As her health declined, she always had a positive spirit and a warm soft laugh that touched your heart. She continued to display her faith in Jesus and was one of God's angels. She made it her business to treat others with respect and help others to the best of her ability. She always took the time to listen to your concerns and pray.

She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories: one daughter, Naomi Louise Yelverton of Goldsboro, NC.  two sons, William Yelverton (Joyce) of Goldsboro, NC; Robert Yelverton (Wende) of Goldsboro.

Nine grandchildren: Takeya Williams, Detwan Jones, Jaymias Yelverton, Jeremy Yelverton Sims, Keyontae Best, Rashaun Yelverton, Jasmine Yelverton, Jowan Yelverton, Kanika Hall (Justin), Matthew Woodard, Brandon Yelverton (Tori).
