Mr. Marion E. Barnes, Sr., age 84, lovingly known by his family and friends as “Pete” of 1295 Rosewood Road, Goldsboro, NC, departed his earthly life on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at his residence.

Pete was born in Wake County on February 3, 1932 to the late Ms. Gertrude Frederick and Mr. George Best. Pete was raised by Joseph and Beulah Barnes in the Rosewood community of Goldsboro. He served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years and retired in 1972. Pete finished his career as a Production Manager with Nortel Networks in Durham, NC. Most of all, Pete was known as a devoted husband and loving “Dad”, all of which was grounded in his Christian faith. He was a dedicated member and Deacon of the House of Prayer of Dudley.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Bessie L. Barnes, four children, Marion E. Barnes, II (Sonya) of Charlotte, NC, Phillip G. Barnes (LaTonya) of Goldsboro, NC, Richard C. Barnes (Lyndel) of Raleigh, NC, Delicia L. Barnes of Winterville, NC; and brother, Clarence J. Barnes of Goldsboro. Pete was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Luebert Marie Barnes.

Pete’s precious memories will also be cherished by five grandchildren, Marion E. Barnes, III (Jasmin) and great grandson due soon, Marion E. Barnes, IV of Charlotte, Matthew E. Barnes of Charlotte, DeShanta Burnette (Brandon) of Raleigh, Montrelvis Rodgers of Goldsboro and Shalona' Rodgers of Goldsboro; great grandchildren, Nasje Alexander of Raleigh, Aquan, A’Niya, Mashiya and Paris Washington all of Goldsboro, and Zaleon and Zoey Moore both of Goldsboro; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Annie Fairley (Rev. Robert) of Maxton, Lila Bell (Leonard) of Goldsboro, George Langston (Theresa) of Dudley, James Langston (Mary Ann) of Goldsboro, Milton Langston (Eldress Doris) of Goldsboro, Edward Langston (Vivian) of Goldsboro, Mary Ruth Williams (Larry) of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
