Mrs. Mary Jane Mewborn-Phillips, age 82, lovingly known by her family and friends as “Red,” of 108 Broughton Lane, La Grange, NC, departed her earthly life on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston, NC. Mary was born in Green County on April 12, 1933. She was born to the late Mr. Elijah Mewborn and Mrs. Macie Kornegay-Mewborn. She received her education in the public School System of Wayne County.

 Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwards Phillips; two sons, James Edwards Phillips Jr., and Robert Earl Phillips; a daughter, Frances Carol Phillips; two brothers, James Mewborn, Joseph(Joe) Mewborn, and Robert Mewborn Sr.

Mrs. Phillips leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories to: her  two daughters, Linda Faye Edwards (Jasper), of whom she lived with and Margaret Ann Pratt (Walter); a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; one special grandchild, Mary Jane Sutton, one sister, Omia Lee Mewborn of Kinston, NC; three brothers,Leonard (Mary) Mewborn Sr., and Allen Douglas Mewborn both of Goldsboro, NC, and Kenneth Ray Mewborn of Kinston, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,other relatives and friends.
