Mr. Melvin Lewis departed his earthly life, Friday, December 30, 2022 at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital, Chapel Hill, N.C.
Melvin was born in Wayne County on February 1, 1944 to the late Ms. Odessa Lewis and reared by his grandparents the late Edith and Jacob Lewis. He received his education at Pikeville Training School, Pikeville, N.C. and Norwayne School, Fremont, N.C. He furthered his education at A & T University, Greensboro, N.C. and Kean University (formerly Newark State College), Union, N.J.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was also a faithful member of Parker’s Chapel Church, under the leadership of Pastor Doretha Brown where he served on the Executive board.
Melvin was preceded in death by one daughter, Camillia Reneè Lewis and one
brother Charles Lewis.
He is survived by his wife Doris Edmundson Lewis of the home, two daughters, Stephanie Lewis, Goldsboro, N.C., Eldress Sheila (Pastor Gregory) Holmes of New Bern, N.C., one granddaughter Brittney Camille (Eric) Scott of Atlanta, G.A., one grandson Antony Jacob Lewis of Goldsboro, N.C., one great-granddaughter Ariell Rowe of Haines City, F.L., one brother Ronnie (Brenda) Ford of Kileen, Texas, Five sister-in-law’s, Ms. Avalon Strickland, of Irvington, N.J., Mrs. Vivian Coley, of Fremont, N.C., Mrs. Betty Barnes, of Dudley, N.C., Mrs. Doretha Brown, of Goldsboro, N.C. and Mrs. Doris Edmundson, of Durham, N.C., One Aunt Ms. Eva Lewis of Pikeville, N.C., two cousins/sisters Janet (Charlie) Royster, Carolyn (Gregory) Brown both of Pikeville, N.C., other close cousins and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, January 7, 2023 at1:00 pm at Greenleaf Christian Church, 2110 N. William Street, Goldsboro, N.C., and Eulogy by Pastor Dr. Gregory Holmes and Pastor Doretha Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in Chris Coley Cemetery in Pikeville, N.C.
Public viewing will be held Friday, January 6, 2023, at McIntyre Funeral Home, 1215 Royall Ave, Goldsboro, N.C. from 3 to 6 pm.
