Mr. Roy Mitchell peacefully transitioned to his new home on January 25, 2024 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC. God’s gentle touch and His Infinite wisdom decided, my precious son, it is your time to leave this earthly realm.
Roy was born in Wayne County to the late Mr. Nathaniel Mitchell and Mrs. Alberta (Melvin) Mitchell on November 3, 1952. He was the youngest of six siblings.
Due special physical needs and a speech impediment, he was unable to attend public school. However, this health condition did not hinder Roy from enjoying life. In his youth, when his nieces and nephews were outside playing, Roy was there as well. He never allowed self-pity to enter. He was also the reliable mail-carrier for three homes. Roy always greeted you with a grin, especially if you were a woman.
Roy had a special love for delicious culinary cuisine. He also enjoyed watching a good wrestling match on Saturday nights. His presence will genuinely missed.
Roy was preceded in death by two siblings; Billy Ray Mitchell and Helen Thompson; both parents Mr. & Mrs. Nathaniel Mitchell.
He leaves to cherish his memories, one brother Nathaniel Mitchell, Jr. (Elizabeth) of LaGrange, NC; two sisters Ethel Murrell (Thomas) of Suitland, MD and Bertha Ward (Larry) of Dudley, NC; three loving aunts Mrs. Louise Newsome, Ms. Ada Best of Goldsboro, NC and Mrs. Nellie Thomas of Concord, NC; a special nephew, Erik Ward of the home, who lovingly and tenderly cared for him for the past six years; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
