Daughter of the late James Thomas Jones and the late Frances Lavern Wilkes Jones was born on September 26, 1963, in Wilson County, North Carolina. God granted His daughter rest from the pain and worries of this world on Friday, April 3, 2026.
Teresa was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Breland and her brother James Lamont Jones.
Teresa was reared in Wayne County, North Carolina where she received her formative education from Goldsboro High School in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She continued her education at King’s Business College, receiving her Associates Degree in Accounting. Teresa was a dedicated and hard worker, always working at least two jobs in various fields. She moved to Iowa where she was a supervisor for Walmart in Jordan Creek and a Data Entry Operator for Citi Group until she returned to North Carolina.
God blessed her with many gifts, she played the clarinet for the Goldsboro Marching Band, she loved singing R&B, and her favorite was Gospel songs. Teresa had a powerful voice leading songs in our church choir at St. James Church of Christ in Fremont, NC. She was also one of the lead singers for Burns United Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Songs such as God is Real by The McDonald Sisters or Walk Around Heaven by The Jackson Southernaires. Her powerful singing led many to Christ. She was also a talented artist, drawing in many competitions throughout the state.
Loving memories are left to be cherished by her three sons; DiArlo Johnson of Goldsboro, DiAmni Quendel Johnson (Nichole) of Iowa and Christopher Scott Breland of Iowa; two sisters Sharon D. Jones of Elm City, Yolonda Gail Rowe (Eric) of Pikeville; nine grandchildren Desiree Johnson, Kaden Ray Johnson, Quendel Reid Johnson, Trae Lavonne Johnson, Ariana Nicole Johnson, Lilyana Boyd, Adryana Boyd Mateo Breland and Baby Girl Breland; one aunt Joyce Wilkes, five uncles, Franklin Jones, Leamon (Jim) Jones (Lucille), Donnie Wilkes (Lorraine), Charlie (CJ) Wilkes, Anthony (Amp) Wilkes (Esther); one sister in law, Tracy Jones; two nieces Danyelle Smith (Donnell), Teri Burgos; Nephews James Jones, Jr. (Kayla), Eddarious Marcel Jones (Kandance), Iasiah Jones, James Malloy, Daniel Jones, Terence McKinney, 12 great nieces and nephews and a host of loving cousins, relatives and friends.
