Yvette Lewis Obituary

Ms. Yvette Jean Lewis was born in Wilson County on October 14, 1964. She grew up in Pikeville, North
Carolina within a loving family and she was also much loved by a large extended family. As a child she
was energetic, playful, loving, loved to laugh and was free-spirited and she grew into a beautiful, caring,
compassionate, strong woman and was an advocate for anyone who faced challenges in their life.
Though hearing impaired and deaf from birth, Jean enjoyed a lively childhood and loved our
grandmother, the late Mrs. Emma Lewis, dearly. For Jean, being deaf was not an obstacle to her living a
full and joyful life. Jean had an unforgettable, beautiful smile, personality and presence that could light
up the room.

She attended and graduated from North Carolina School for the Deaf in Wilson, North
Carolina in 1983. After graduation, Jean attended and completed a vocational education
program in Greenville, North Carolina. She was employed at several companies over the years
including Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Commissary, in Goldsboro, North Carolina for several
years. Jean enjoyed travelling, loved butterflies, shopping, having fun, enjoying her life and
helping others. Jean later moved to Durham then Raleigh where in more recent years she began
attending and participating within Club Horizon in Knightdale, NC for the past few years. She
was an amazing volunteer, advocate for others and inspirational member of Club Horizon. Jean
enjoyed taking club trips, cooking, sharing and being among the members and staff at the club
until her untimely and sudden passing on May 25, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Lillian Harvey of Fremont, NC, three
sisters, Ms. Yvonne Sutton of Raleigh, NC, Ms. Michelle Lewis of Baltimore, MD and Ms. Janet
Jeanette of Goldsboro, Mr. Tony Burwell, a special friend of Raleigh, NC, an aunt, Mrs. Rosalee
(Chester) Harvey of Goldsboro, NC, great-aunt, Mrs. Mary (Moses) Harvey of Norfolk, VA. She
